The free app on a managed device: purchases are off
Steel Profiles Pro for managed iPhones and iPads: US$9.99 a copy in Apple Business, half price for schools buying 20 or more.
On an iPhone or iPad that your organisation manages, Apple turns in-app purchases off. The free Steel Profiles installs there, but no one can unlock a library, so every engineer is left with the dimensions.
Steel Profiles Pro is the same app with nothing to unlock. All six libraries, every property and the design checks are in each copy from the first launch.
Your organisation buys the copies, gives them to people or to devices, and takes them back when someone leaves. With device assignment, no one needs an Apple Account at all.
On the device there is nothing to set up: no codes, no sign-in and no purchase to approve.
Organisations have added more than 3,900 copies of the free app through Apple Business in 2026. Steel Profiles Pro gives those teams the complete edition. See the cost

What each copy holds
Each copy holds 9,859 sections from six standards, design checks , equivalents and weight lists for the yard .
The libraries, each in its own units, with the full properties of every section:
| Library | Sections |
|---|---|
| AISC 16, American, also in SI | 2,299 |
| EN, European, with HP bulb flats | 2,018 |
| AISC 14, American, also in SI | 1,995 |
| BS, British | 1,863 |
| CISC 92, Canadian | 1,490 |
| AS/NZS, Australian and New Zealand | 194 |
Also in every copy: design checks to EN 1993-1-1 and AISC 360-22, bolts M8 to M64 and 1/2 to 1 1/2 in with their resistances, steel grades to EN, ASTM, CSA, AS/NZS and JIS, the Section Builder, PDF and CSV export, and eight languages. Everything in Steel Profiles Pro
Buying copies for a team
To begin, whoever manages apps for your organisation signs in to Apple Business at business.apple.com, or to Apple School Manager at school.apple.com, and opens Apps and Books.
Then search for Steel Profiles Pro, enter the number of licences and buy them. In Apple School Manager, 20 licences or more cost half the price.
Shortly after, the licences reach your device management: the one built into Apple Business, or Jamf, Microsoft Intune and the others. Assign them to devices, with no Apple Account needed, or to people.
From then on, the app installs and updates itself. When someone leaves, take the licence back and give it to the next person: it belongs to the organisation, not to the user.
US$6.99
once, per person
For one person on their own device, the free Steel Profiles with the All Libraries purchase costs less and also runs on the Mac with the same Apple Account. It needs a device where in-app purchases are allowed.
US$9.99
a copy, paid once
Each copy is paid once, with every update included and no subscription. The licences stay with your company and move between people.

App Store price. Apple shows the final amount, with any tax for your country, before you pay.
US$5.00
a copy, for 20 copies or more
Schools and universities buying 20 copies or more in Apple School Manager pay half the App Store price. Under 20 copies the full price applies. Students keep using the copies the school assigns them.
Apple sets the education price; the figure is half the App Store price, rounded.
Questions from IT
Can a licence move to someone else?
Yes. Licences bought in Apple Business or Apple School Manager belong to the organisation. Take one back from a person or a device in your device management and assign it again.
Does each person need an Apple Account?
No, if you assign the copies to devices. If you assign them to people, they sign in with a Managed Apple Account or their own. iCloud sync of favorites and projects needs an Apple Account on the device.
What data does the app collect?
None. There is no sign-in, no analytics and no advertising. Favorites and weight lists stay on the device, or in the user's own iCloud when sync is on. See the privacy policy.
Does it work without a connection?
Yes. All 9,859 sections, the design checks and the references are inside the 32 MB app, so it works on site, in the shop and in the classroom without a network.
Is there a Mac version?
Steel Profiles Pro is for iPhone and iPad. On a Mac, use the free Steel Profiles with the All Libraries purchase, bought per person with an Apple Account on a Mac where purchases are allowed.
We already deployed the free app. What changes?
Deploy Pro next to it and remove the free app once people have moved over. Favorites, projects and saved sections carry over through iCloud when both apps use the same Apple Account. In-app purchases made in the free app do not transfer to Pro.
Is there a discount for companies?
Apple gives volume discounts to education only, so companies pay the App Store price for each copy. For a large order, or a question before you buy, write to support@theolternative.com.
Are the design checks certified?
No. They follow EN 1993-1-1 and AISC 360-22 and show every formula, but they are aids for preliminary sizing and a qualified engineer must verify the results.
Which languages does it speak?
English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese. It follows the language of the device.
